How To Treat Hemorrhoids

I am a healthy woman. A vegetarian for 10 years, but for the last two months I’ve been having very large bowel movements. To be clear, not painful – just – large. To the point where, I’ve been clogging toilets. Why is this happening, suddenly?

My son (24) had emergency surgery this morning to remove his appendix & they also had to do a bowel re-section due to the Crohn's Disease that he has had for 10 years. He will be in the hospital for 5-6 days and then sent home to recuperate. I will have to fly from Chicago to NY to take care of him. Does anyone have any idea how long it will be before he can go back to work?

No jokes, please… this is a serious question…

Even though I'm relatively young (25) and have not had babies yet, I've been having a problem with hemorrhoids for years. Recently the problem seems to have gotten worse; it's now hard to go to the bathroom without some discomfort, and yesterday I saw some blood for the first time in a while.

My gynecologist said that there's nothing anyone could do for the hemorrhoids, that even if I got them removed they would grow back. He said the best thing to do would be to wait till I'm finished having babies (because being pregnant will make them worse), then try getting them removed. But who knows when I'll be finished having babies… in the meantime, I don't want to be uncomfortable for another 10+ years!

What kind of doctor should I see for this problem? A general practitioner? Or a specialist? If a specialist, what kind?
