Can anyone tell me about a change in bowel habits?

My entire life ( almost 56 years now ), I have suffered with a dry, large, clay - like stool. But over the last few months or so, all that has changed. My bowel movements are now much more frequent and are almost always soupy or mushy, sometimes even to the point of mild diarrhea. There is no blood, no abdominal pain, no loss of appetite, or loss of weight. As a matter of fact, I’ve even gained about 5 pounds over the last 4 months and feel otherwise healthy. In actuality, it’s been quite a relief not to have to strain like crazy when I sit down on the pot. But at the same time, it concerns me somewhat. Any explanations? Qualfied medical folks only, please.
This has been going for months now without any other signs or symtoms.

I am a nurse, any change in bowel habits need to be checked out, You need a colonoscopy done anyway, at your age. Please check it out,, my husband died with colon cancer, and by the time any really noticable symptoms was present it was to late. So please go to see your doctor. Colon cancer can be cured now , if you catch it in time… Please go see Doctor. God Bless you !!

You need to see the doc about this. Any change in bowel habits needs to be checked out by the doc as it is one of the major signs of cancer. That does not mean you probably have it but that is one of the warning signs so see your doc.

My mother had the same type of mild diarrhea, but refused to go and get it checked out. God rest her soul…she was only 54 when she passed away from colon cancer.

    PLEASE GET CHECKED!

could be many things or nothing at all.. age , allergies etc

have you changed your diet? especially breakfast foods, cereals, breads, crackers..
if you are eating more multi grained items this can change your system.. changing from butter from margarine, even changes in milk products or yougurt with more active cultures

have you noticed.. more gurguling in your gut, cramps or irritations in your gut? twinges or little things that normally you wouldn’t think of… if the diarrhea has a strong odor or comes on with out notice… and you are in a rush to get to the bathroom
you need to have it seen to.. next time it happens… listen to your body,,, see what it is telling you.. take notes and take them to your Dr
