Is rectal bleeding only a symptom of problems with the bowel?

I have a suspected peptic ulcer. Could rectal bleeding have something to do with that? When the doctor did a rectal exam he didn't find anything wrong. But when I pass stools I find a little blood, even though I don't have any pain in the bowel area.

If the blood is bright red then it is from the lower bowel. If it is black then it is from the upper bowel. Bright red blood could be anything from colon cancer to internal hemorrhoids. Sounds like its time to get a scope.

    You could have a hemorrhoid.

Do you have lots of sex with a hairy guy in assless chaps named Big Earl?

That might be the problem right there.

    Hemorrhoid may be the cause…

I had that symptom too. Including the doctors exam coming out okay. I will be getting a scope Aug. 3rd for the possibility of stomach cancer or a tumor. You should look into getting a scope done too…

It could be something minor like hemorrhoids all the way to something serious like colon cancer. You need to see a gastroenterologist.

I would get another rectal exam done, maybe a colonscopy. My father passed blood in his stool and he got cancer. So I would either see another doctor or get another test. Losing blood in the stool is not good.

You probably have internal hemmeroids or you're spending to much time on the toilet when that happens all the blood builds up in the rectum and you could have some bleeding when you wipe after you have a bowel movement. Check with your Doctor just to make sure it isn't anything else like cancer or something. I don't mean to scare you but it's better to be safe than sorry and besides you asked the question. Good luck.

If your stools are exceptionally hard and the blood is in small amounts and bright red, you may be micro cutting your anus during evacuation. That is not a major problem but some dietary changes may be in order. More fiber, More water, a lot of different medications can cause harder stools.

You should really make your concerns known to your physician instead of a bunch of strangers on a message board.

hemorrhoids has been mentioned and may be one cause. also may want to be checked for colon cancer. make an appointment with your doctor. better safe than sorry.

if the blood is bright red, it's a bleed (hemorrhoid or tear of some sort) close to the exit… if it's darker, then it's farther up, and if it's your stool, the stool will be darker, the higher up the bleed is (like a peptic ulcer). If you ever have really dark, tarry looking stools you should go to a doctor in the ER ASAP

And if you ever worry about what blood looks like going the other way (vomiting) the brighter red it is the closer to your esophagus it is.. the more it looks like coffee grounds the lower it is.
