What is a good supplement to take to increase bowel movements?

I don't have the time to go thru a detox program, but I would like to take something that will increase my bowel movements. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't drink coffee. What about dandelion supplements?

Just get into the habit of taking a scoop of some psyllium based bulking agent…like Metamucil or a generic equivalent. It is absolutely safe and actually good for you to take on a regular basis. It's unfortunate that many people look at it as a laxative as opposed to a fiber-rich nutrition product…which is really what it is.

fruits and vegetables or food rich in fiber. green tea can help too…

  • Charlie P says:

Why? If your diet is good you shouldn't have a problem. Eat brown rice, lots of veggies (raw and cooked) and fresh fruit. If you still have problems see a physician.

  • Doc2 says:

How about Metamucil? And why are you worrying about bowel movements. Many people go a few times a week.

  • xo_j says:

Flax is very good. You can take flax oil and mix it with a beverage or add flax to your cereal in the morning. You should also try bran. Flax is one of the most commonly used supplements and it comes in many different forms.

    Metamucil
dandelion makes you have watery bowel movements.
    best

  • Rebel S says:

Fiber in your daily diet will give you regular bowel movements.
Many fruits are full of fiber.
    Metamucil can be taken daily
Fibersure can also be taken daily and mixed into foods
Ask your doctor about supplements, that would be your best bet.

About 5 to 6 pitted prunes before breakfast and follow with lots of water does work well.

  • Bugg says:

Drinking plenty of water helps. I buy this stuff called Vita Splash With Fiber, it has 5 grams of fiber-you add it to your bottle of water. It has a rasberry lemonade flavor. I love it and before you know it your getting plenty of water and fiber all at once.

  • Chloe says:

    Try eating more fiber.

  • su_france2003 says:

A vegetarian diet is also good - and for a lot of more important reasons than the effect on your bowels…
But if you're not ready for that - flaxseed oil may help but don't get into a habit of using it every day
