What would happen to my eyes if I force them and cause eye strains regularly?

I'm nearsighted and I have a pair of glasses. I'm tired of them but can't get contacts (my eyes become red and dry and I'm also extremely afraid of putting them in). Now for a few days, I've been squinting to see the board, refusing the aid of glasses and they have caused headaches. Am I doing something dangerous to my eyes? What could happen to it?

You are not actually damaging your eyes or making your prescription worse by not using your glasses, but that strain is causing you discomfort and pain, and that is certainly not good.

90% of people who are "tired" of their glasses either do not like the way they look on them or find them uncomfortable. Both of these things can be fixed. A well-chosen frame can make you look cool, or smart, or sexy, or any combination of the three. A badly chosen frame can make you look like a nerd, which is fine if you are a model and that is the look you are going for.

An uncomfortable frame is equally correctable. A good optician can point you to an ultra-lightweight frame that will feel like you are not even wearing glasses. Combined with proper adjustments so they rest properly on your face without causing pressure points, and most people can wear their glasses all day without discomfort.

As for contacts, yes, it is very scary to put them in. But the truth is that a GOOD contact lens instructor can teach 95% of all patients how to put them on without fear or discomfort, no matter how much the thought of putting something in your eye disturbs you. Just because you didn't have good results with one optical office doesn't mean there isn't another one out there that can teach you properly.

In short, why make yourself suffer? Use comfortable glasses and avoid the headaches and blurred vision.
