I have or had asthma. I discovered Buteyko. Google search "buteyko" and you will find good info. I took a Buteyko breathing course 3 months ago, and I'm feeling better and better! To read a good booklet about the method go to books.google.com (no www) search for a book called "close your mouth" it's the second from the top on the results for that search and it's by Patrick G. McKeown. Its a 32 page booklet that has a lot of good info in it.
For years and years I had a persistent cough and wheezing, and every night during the past year (before Buteyko) I would wake up with awful coughing fits. Everything seemed to have become a trigger for me. I had coughing fits after I ate or talked or laughed or walked or anything. It all eventually ended up in a big asthma attack. I was diagnosed with asthma and given medication. Shortly after this I discovered Buteyko, and now I no longer have coughing fits and am medication free. I haven't felt this good in years!
From what I've learned, medications only make it worse in the long run and can cause more problems, but they can be necessary in the short term possibly a person may need them a little for the long term. Buteyko breathing addresses the root of the problem and is very effective.
If you don't already have asthma, it's probably headed in that direction. It wouldn't hurt to fix your breathing now before it gets worse.
