What are some over-the-counter medications that I could take for my asthma?

Not just to control the asthma, but to help with the coughing and chest pain. I'm having a hard time sleeping because of this. I have an appointment with a doctor, but that's not for a couple of days.

Coughing and chest pain are signs that your asthma is not controlled.

You need to talk to the doctor about adding additional medication.

Right now -I would be using your rescue inhaler anytime you start coughing and can't breathe.

If you are having a lot of difficulty breathing - call the doctor, explain the situation and see if he/she can get you in earlier.

OTC meds won't help with this - cough medicines reduce the coughing response (in response to irritation) - you however are coughing because you can't breath (inflammation and spasms of the lungs) and your body is trying to get more air.
